The Lagos State Mortgage Board (Lagoshoms) has urged allottees of various estates built by the government to ensure proper maintenance.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer\/General Manager Bayowa Foresythe said the homes were part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu\u2019s THEMES agenda to reduce the housing deficit.<\/p>\n
Foresythe spoke at the weekend during a stakeholders\u2019 forum with residents of the Ilupeju Scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is no exaggeration that shelter is key to human existence, especially in Lagos where land is one of the most expensive resources, judging from its size and population,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThis urgent need of the to reduce the massive deficit brought about the establishment of the Lagos State Mortgage Board in 2012 and, since then, the agency has gradually been reducing the housing deficit, initially through the Lagos Homs Ownership Mortgage Scheme which you belong to and, presently, the Rent-To-Own Scheme Policy, where only five per cent equity contribution is required for anyone to own a home and the remaning payments are spread over 120 months, with a single-digit internet digit interest rate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis interest rate, I\u2019m sure, cannot be found in any state of the federation. It is of note to mention that the value of this magnificent and comfortable edifice has increased incredibly since 2014. I urge you all to protect it jealously from all kinds of ruins because the government has invested a lot of resources in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Foresythe hailed the residents of the 120 flats for proper maintenance of the building.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can proudly say you have done well. Indeed, I have to categorically exemplify your efforts and contributions to the maintenance and protection of this scheme, others should emulate you.<\/p>\n
\u201cApart from the facilities provided by the government, the residents have taken it upon themselves to provide Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras for maximum security, playing ground for children and adults, periodic painting of the blocks and the environment among others. On this, I give kudos to the executive, may God increase you all.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you all can see, this estate can favourably compete with any estate in other highbrow areas in the state. Its further preservation is uppermost in our minds, hence this stakeholders forum so that residents and the administrator can be on the same pa.\u201d<\/p>\n
