He was sentenced to 13 years in prison in April 2012 after admitting to a nearly \u00a350 million scam.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder cash, substantive\u00a0charges\u00a0of\u00a0money laundering, and one count of receiving\u00a0money transfer\u00a0through deceit and fraud just two months before.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Aid Ibori\u2019s loot \u201ccould be in excess of \u00a3200 million, it is difficult to say,\u201d Judge Anthony\u00a0Pitts\u00a0told Southwark Crown Court in London, citing other matters.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ibori is suspected of embezzling \u00a3157 million in public funds, according to the\u00a0Metropolitan\u00a0Police.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cJames Ibori\u2019s sentence sends a\u00a0clear\u00a0and powerful message to those who want to use the United\u00a0Kingdom\u00a0as a haven for their crimes,\u201d said Andrew Mitchell, the UK\u00a0International Development\u00a0Secretary at the time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Delta State Governor James Ibori\u2019s loot was handed over to Nigeria\u2019s federal government for \u00a34,214,017.
