All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has adopted consensus arrangement in the forthcoming ward congress in the State.
The decision was taken during by the ruling party at a critical meeting of it’s stakeholders held on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
The acting state chairman of the party, Ali Dalori, who coordinated the Tuesday’s meeting, assured to provide a level playing ground at which all prospective contestants would be given an opportunity.
The State’s Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, at the meeting moved a motion for the adoption of consensus for the ward congresses and was seconded by a former member of the House of Representatives, Abdu Musa. The motion was subsequently put to a voice-vote and unanimously adopted.
After the adoption of the decision, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who is leader of the party, called for strict adherence to APC’s rules and regulations guiding conduct of congresses.
Zulum cautioned party members to avoid acts capable of threatening the unity of the party.
The Governor expressed concern on how non-compliance with party’s rules and regulations in some states led to litigations that affected its chances in the previous general elections.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, former Governors Maina Ma’aji Lawan and Kashim Shettima, Senators representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume and Borno North, Abubakar Kyari.
Other prominent members of the party at the meeting include former Deputy Governors, all 10 serving members of House of Representatives, members of the State House of Assembly, members of the state executive council, chairmen of the 27 local government council as well as former members of the State and National Assembly and other critical stakeholders.
