The entire Youths of Ogun State under the aegis of APC Youth Wing has expressed their heartfelt appreciation to union leaders in the state for accepting dialogue with the state government over the new minimum wage.
The representative of organised Labour led by the State Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole and supported by his Trade Union Congress, TUC counterpart, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, called off the strike after a meeting with the State Goverment team led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
Reading a communique after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two parties, Comrade Bankole noted that Goverment had agreed to the implementation of the signed new minimum wage effective from October, 2020.
Government, Comrade Bankole continued, agreed to earmark the sum of N500m to clear the gratuity on quarterly basis, as payment would commence latest January 2021, while the process for outstanding promotions for 2018, 2019 and 2020 would commence immediately.
According to Labour leaders, both parties agreed to suspend the proposed 2020 Pension Amendment Bill, with a plan to constitute a committee comprising representatives of Government and Labour to tackle grey areas.
The convener of the youth movement through a statement made available to the press made it known that Ogun state is blessed to have a listening governor at the helm of affairs.
