In its effort to rid the estate agency business of criminals, the government of Babajide Sanwoolu has put some measures in place that would regulate the activities of the practitioners in the state.
The ministry of housing under its Lagos state real estate transaction department (LASRETRAD) had harped on the laws regulating estate agency in order to curb criminals parading themselves as real estate agents whose their sole aim of joining the industry is to dupe innocent citizens.
The special adviser to the governor on housing Mrs. Toke Benson, made this known at a press conference where a portal and social media handles were unveiled to enable citizens reach out to the government on any issue relating to tenancy and property in the state.
” Sanity must prevail the governor insist and this we must enforce, no citizen would be cheated or take for granted again. The interest of all parties must adequately be protected.”
“No one would be allowed to practice this profession any longer without registration with the government. Anyone found wanting will be penalized.”
In the simplified version of the law of Lagos state agency regulatory authority law, chapter L128 laws of Lagos state 2015 has given conditions to be met for estate agents; with the minimum requirement of Senior secondary school certificate , must be a member of related professional bodies and present an evidence of a business name registration amongst others.
The yet to be registered practitioners are enjoined to do so immediately as Lagos state real estate transaction department will also open outlets across the 20 local governments and the 37LCDAs,so as to ease the registration process.
“This campaign and enlightenment would not stop, it will be a regular activities as various stakeholders shall at all times be engaged in order to spread the message to all and sundry.”
Toke urged the people of Lagos state to stop patronising unregistered estate agents.
