The 36th edition of RYLA in district 9110 has been declared open by Rotarian Dare Adeyeri who is the Chair of the 2021 edition, Said in his speech, ” We live in a complex world, one that is global, digitally enabled and transparent and yet marked by an unprecedented state of turmoil and constant change. From 2008 to now, the world has moved from one turmoil to another – from financial crisis to economic meltdown; from conflicts to instability and from climate change to environmental deprivation. All of these have increased the levels of human misery, calling for leaders with a new set of paradigms.”
“Who are these leaders and where do we find them? It seems to me that the adults have run out of ideas, and we must now look to the youth for help in tackling not only the difficulties of today but also shaping our collective tommorow.”
Dare amongst several speakers at the opening ceremony urged the youth to abide strictly to the acronym of RYLA in which the ‘R’ stands for Resilience – to be – tough yet flexible in pursuing their goals. ‘Y’ means ,yes, I can! We can! Whilst the ‘L’ is for love by loving their neighbor as they would love themselves and ‘A’ is to aim and achieve.
The former commissioner for education, former commissioner for commerce and Industry and cooperatives in Lagos and currently Vice Chairman Lagos East All progressives congress, Chief Mrs. Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye who gave the keynote speech admonished the Youth not to lose focus on their goals and avoid peer pressure by not engaging in all those activities that can jeopardize their future.
