In what could be described as a giant stride by the Lagos state police towards combating sundry crimes in the state, operatives of the Lagos state Rapid Response Squad (RRS), early Sunday morning, arrested a bus, fully loaded with an illicit drug variant, popularly called, Arizona in street parlance.
The RRS personnel, who were on routine 24 hours surveillance patrol as directed by the agency’s commander, CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi, cornered the conveyor bus of the illicit substance at mile 2 area of the Oshodi- Apapa expressway, around 1600hrs, Sunday morning.
Preliminary investigation, has revealed that, the illegal consignment was headed for Mushin for onward delivery to one Alhaji Better, a.k.a General, who findings have further revealed, is part of a ring of drug merchants.
The driver of the bus namely, Ojukwu Omanogho, aged 36, his colleague, Hope Jumbo, aged 40 and a motorcyclist, Oluwole Omojuyitan, aged 40, who was detailed to monitor the trip, to-fro take off location in Alaba Rago, enroute Mushin, are currently cooling their feet in police custody.
Oluwole Omojuyitan made attempt to compromise the police officers after arrest with the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00), which the RRS men outrightly rejected; the seized illicit substance is said, to have an estimated street value of over Ten Million naira (10,000,000.00), as confirmed by one of the arrested suspects.
The commissioner of police Lagos state command, CP Alabi Sylvester, has, while, commending the commander and operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for the feat, directed that, the suspects be immediately transferred to the state command for comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution.
