True leaders strive to empower others and not merely have power over them. They have the ability to train and develop others. Instead of micro-managing, they trust the people they lead to make the right decisions to achieve their objectives. They empower others to act independently, this quote best describes Mr David Olusegun Odunmbaku (DOS), the Executive Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State.
For those underestimating his leadership style, doing that at their peril, on Saturday, April 16, 2022, Ojodu youths cheered loudly when Odunmbaku arrived at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos, where thousands of South-west youths converged for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for President 2023.
Recall, that he had mobilized over 500 Ojodu youths for the event tagged: “Progressive Youth of Southwest Asiwaju for President 2023”.
Odunmbaku was particularly cheerful, shaking hands with many of the youths from Ojodu and other parts of the State before he walked into the VIP stand where we have the Jagaban of the Universe, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Executive Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Dr Kadiri Hamzat, members of Lagos State House of Assembly, council chairmen, All Progressives Congress (APC), National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, among others.
Little wonder how Ojodu youths rally around him wherever he goes, he’s an accessible politician just like his father and youth empowerment remains front burner of his administration. He engages youths within the community with empowerment, training and retraining.
The council chairman arrived at the Stadium through the pitch, where he was entertained by the youths led by Secretary to the Council, Hon. Olaide Bello and councillor representing Ward E, Hon. Lekan Peters. His arrival hit the bullseye as those in the stands keep wondering who came in to receive the kind of reception.
For those who don’t know DOS, he was taught and understood politics, he began his political career at the Cardinal James Odunmbaku University where he bagged a Master’s degree in Political Science. He’s presently the Dean of Students Affairs in the institution.
DOS is a leader, down to earth, orator, team player, brilliant and energetic man, if you are not physically fit, you can’t go on project inspections with him.
He understands the needs of the community. Under DOS, Ojodu is glimpsing unprecedented infrastructural development, in no time, one of the Primary Healthcare Centre under his jurisdiction will start 24hrs operation with state of the art facilities.
