Lagos Traffic Radio has continued to receive accolades for its timely and innovative delivery of travel advisory that has aided easy transportation and enhanced commercial activities across sectors of the local economy.
Speakers at the traffic radio station’s Gala and Awards Night organised as part of the activities highlighted to celebrate 10 years of broadcasting with the theme: ‘Celebrating 10 Years of Traffic Reportage Gaining Momentum for the Future’, were unanimous in showering praises on its management and staff for making Lagos proud.
Commending Lagos Traffic Radio, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, said the last 10 years of the Station have been sustained by innovative leadership ideas that have expanded its frontiers beyond just traffic reporting.
He pointed out that the station also provides information on Rail, Waterways and Flight schedules.
Omotoso, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Olusina Thorpe, reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to delivering a robust Intermodal transport system for the benefit of all Lagosians.
The Commissioner applauded the Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM team saying, “I want to urge you not to rest on your oars in empowering Lagosians with the best of traffic information and travel advisory, keep the flag flying in this venture and be rest assured that the government is solidly behind you”.
In his welcome address, the General Manager of the Station, Mr. Tayo Akanle, maintained that the station’s resilience is a reflection of the ‘Lagos Can Do Spirit’, which has made it the fifth Largest Economy in West Africa.
According to him, “Verifiable successes recorded so far have greatly made the brand equity of the station become stronger, up-scaling its rating in the comity of Broadcast Radio stations”.
Akanle said the feats achieved in Lagos, in particular, and Nigeria in general, among other reasons, informed the need to celebrate the station, just as it gains momentum to deliver more in the future.
The event climaxed the month-long celebration of the station’s tenth year anniversary that featured the presentation of long service awards to staff, appreciation awards to individuals, agencies and NGOs for their contributions to the meteoric growth of Lagos Traffic Radio.
Attendees included the Body of Permanent Secretaries, serving and retired officials of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Lagos State Government, Traffic Management Agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations, Staff and management of LTR and well wishers.
