The Lions Club International (Region 3) and Donner Foundation has organized Free Medical Outreach for the people of Egbeda and its environs on A1C Test – which is a blood test that provides information about levels of blood glucose, also called blood sugar. The A1C test can be used to diagnose Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. The A1C test is also the primary test used for diabetes management.
According to Mr. Biodun Otun, “This is a yearly exercise where we provide free medical services and prescribed drugs to every participant based on the result of the test carried out on them and advice is also given on how best to attain a healthy lifestyle.”
“We do not only stop at providing medical support, but we also give food items to the participants as a way of supporting the less privileged in the society. It is a continuous exercise that we have done across several states in Nigeria. Donner Foundation has also taken this campaign to some states in the North Central of Nigeria such as: Benue, Jos and Nassarawa.”
“The message we are spreading is simple and direct. Do not take your health for granted and always make sure you regularly check your blood pressure. HBP is the first signal of any minor or major sickness in the body. A healthy body is a wealthy body.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs . Tope Amos said, “This is a commendable effort by a nongovernmental organization. They are not only doing medical test for the people, but also giving medical advice, drugs and food items. For me, this is huge and it will go a long way, especially, these days that people find it hard to feed. My prayer for them is that, Almighty God continues to bless and protect them and their families.”
