A heartbreaking situation is unfolding in the Ijoko area of Sango Ota, Ogun State, where a young lady is facing rejection from her own father due to her sexual orientation.
Rebecca Adebayo, who is currently on study sojourn to Canada has been implicated amongst a group of young ladies allegedly involved in homosexual activities. Initially, her father refused to believe the allegations when the news first broke.
Preliminary investigations have implicated the 24-year-old lady. According to sources close to the family, her father has threatened to sever all ties with her over her sexual orientation and he is cooperating with the law enforcement to locate her.
However, a resident of Ijoko who grew up together with her spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity, “Truthfully, the father is outraged and sad over her daughter’s sexual pick – has vowed to do all within legal means to bring her back to face prosecution in Nigeria.”
She continues, “This is a big shame to our community. We have been friends of over 20 years, and no one amongst us saw the signs she was into such a shameful act. The law should actually take its course because other innocent young ladies might have been indoctrinated,”she asserted.
It will be recalled that, same sex relationships carries penalties of up to 14 years in prison in Nigeria. How events will play out in the coming days would be reported and made public.
