Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the rehabilitation of the Fire Service headquarters and 13 other stations in the State, as part of efforts towards improving the working conditions of officers and ensuring effective service delivery, through appropriate infrastructure and adoption of modern firefighting techniques.
Speaking today at a meeting with Heads of Fire Stations and contractors, the General Manager, Lagos State Infrastructure and Assets Management Agency, LASIAMA, Ms. Adenike Adekanbi, stated that the rehabilitation of Fire Stations is a critical step towards strengthening the Lagos State Fire Service, pointing out that the Governor endorsed the renovation project for completion within four months.
She said, “If the objective of ensuring safety of lives and property in urban and rural areas is to be achieved, a complete overhaul of Fire Service Stations is necessary to boost morale of officers”.
According to her, the meeting was convened to buttress the need for adherence to quality standards and seamless implementation of the project, which covers architectural facelift, mechanical and electrical installations as part of the scope of work.
Noting that the renovation project was the first-of-its-kind for fire stations in Lagos State, Adekanbi charged all stakeholders to cooperate with one other, work together and be diligent in discharging their roles in order to ensure quality delivery. She promised that LASIAMA would monitor the projects to ensure compliance with set standards.
The 13 Fire Service Stations listed for rehabilitation include Mobolaji Johnson Fire Station, Agege Fire Station, Ikorodu Fire Station, Sari-Iganmu Mini Fire Station, Lekki Phase I and II Fire Stations, Ojo Fire Station, Abesan Fire Station, Ejigbo Fire Station, among others.
