A taskforce team of the National Association of Waste Dealers and Employers of Nigeria (NASWADEN), in Alimosho, Lagos, has apprehended 57 scavengers who were found operating in the night as against the approved practice of the association which stipulates that, bona fide members must operate within the allowable hours of 7 am to 6 pm daily and unfailingly.
The latest action by Naswaden, follows a series of meetings between the association and relevant authorities across Alimosho Local Government Area, including police formations, local council executives, the traditional institution and numerous other stakeholders with a view to tackling unwholesome practices such as criminal activities, security and public safety challenges posed by the illegal conduct and actions of aberrant scavengers.
The 57 offenders, were apprehended by Naswaden Taskforce, during a midnight raid on Monday, 29 September, 2025 in line with the association’s resolve to reinforce order, discipline and to actively support measures put in place by relevant authorities to curtail every action or conduct that conflicts with the law.
Speaking over the latest development, Alimosho chairman of Naswaden, Ado Sa’adu said, some of the illegalities are perpetrated by independent scavengers who are not members of the association but as a nationally registered business entity, we are determined to rid our ranks of bad elements; our taskforce team will sustain the enforcement to ensure far reaching sanity ado Sa’adu concluded.
