Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race, citing party unity and strategic alignment as the driving forces behind his decision.
In a statement released on Thursday, Adediran disclosed that he had earlier purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, signaling his intention to contest for the state’s top seat. He noted that his initial move was informed by wide consultations, personal conviction, and a commitment to contribute to the development of Lagos.
However, the politician said evolving political realities within the party necessitated a reassessment of his ambition. He specifically referenced the endorsement of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by party leadership, including the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a key factor influencing his withdrawal.
“Leadership demands the courage to take tough decisions that place collective interest above personal ambition,” Adediran stated, emphasizing that his withdrawal was not an indication of weakness but a demonstration of discipline and respect for party cohesion.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Adediran pledged unwavering support for President Tinubu, whom he described as central to the party’s stability and national progress. He added that aligning with the President’s position on the Lagos gubernatorial process was crucial to sustaining the gains achieved by the party over the years.
The former aspirant also addressed members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, expressing gratitude for their steadfast support. He reiterated that the movement transcends individual ambition and remains rooted in the ideals of equity, inclusion, and better governance.
He urged party stakeholders and supporters to remain calm and united, stressing that the moment calls for consolidation rather than division. “Politics is a continuum,” he noted, adding that his decision represents a step within a broader journey of service.
Adediran concluded by thanking the media for its professionalism and acknowledging the loyalty of his supporters across the state, assuring them of his continued commitment to the growth of the APC and the development of Lagos.
The withdrawal marks a significant shift in the early dynamics of the 2027 Lagos governorship race, further consolidating the influence of party leadership in shaping the contest within Nigeria’s commercial capital. He ended his address with a call for unity and progress, invoking blessings for the Lagos4Lagos Movement, the APC, and the Nigeria.
