The maiden edition of the Councillor’s Cup organized by the Leader of the House, Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Semiu Rasheed Elediye, has reached its exciting climax after several weeks of competitive football action across the ward. The tournament has provided a platform for young football talents to showcase their skills while promoting unity and sportsmanship within the community.
Following a series of thrilling encounters, Greenland FC and Egbeda FC have emerged as the two finalists and are now set to battle for the prestigious trophy. Both teams demonstrated outstanding performances throughout the competition, earning their places in what promises to be a highly entertaining final match.
Speaking ahead of the final, Hon. Elediye reiterated his commitment to grassroots sports development, describing football as a powerful tool for youth engagement, community integration, and talent discovery. He emphasized that the competition was conceived to create opportunities for young people to express their talents positively.
According to him, the Councillor’s Cup is not a one-off event but an initiative that will be sustained annually. “This is going to be an annual competition as a way of showing support for grassroots football and encouraging our youths to pursue their sporting aspirations,” he stated.
The grand finale is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 4th June 2026, at the Ebenezer African Church Primary School Mini Stadium, beginning at 4:00 PM. Residents, football enthusiasts, community leaders, and stakeholders are invited to attend and support the teams as they compete for glory in what is expected to be a memorable sporting event.
