The agitation for a new leadership structure in the All Progressives Congress, Alimosho Federal Constituency has birthed a new political movement named the New Alimosho Movement (NAM).
The newly formed political movement was championed by Alhaji Abiodun Ishola Ejigbadero, an APC chieftain and grassroots mobilizer in Alimosho.
NAM, according to Ejigbadero, is an integral part of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement (BAT 2023).
His words,“ We are not forming any new political party or moving to another party, all of us in NAM are registered and card-carrying members of APC. NAM is basically to ensure sanity reigns in Alimosho APC as against what is currently obtained as well as correct the failure of our elected representatives at local, state and federal levels.”
“The core philosophy of this movement is to propagate Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT Movement) and preach his leadership style of building leaders within the political system amongst other reasons. We are not ignorant of happenings in the politics around us. We know those who truly stand with Asiwaju and we know those who are pretending to stand with him. This is politics. We understand their game. They say one thing, but they mean another. They claim to be with Asiwaju and they are opposing Obasa. What sort of a friend pledges loyalty to a father and shows enmity to his son? They claim to stand with Tinubu and they repel party members from attending the Obasa Movement which we all know is to promote Tinubu and his political legacies.”
Ejigbadero went further to stress that APC is Asiwaju’s achievement and Obasa is Asiwaju’s product. In his words, “how can you separate a person’s ideology from his handwork? If as they claimed, they are truly loyal to Asiwaju, they should stop restraining members from attending Obasa Movement. We know their fear. They are afraid that power will shift from their shrine. What they do not know is that, just like Asiwaju, Obasa is not an ingrate, he will not betray them after gaining their support. We can attest to this from the kind of politics playing out in both his local governments. Obasa repays and appreciates his supporters, unlike what plays out in Alimosho. They should allow party members to support any member they want to support, provided it is still under the same party”
“We, therefore, as a matter of urgent importance demand and push for the following in Alimosho APC; an end to bad political leadership, an end to the enslavement of party members by some selected few, an end to a selfish imposition at the detriment of members’ interest and we say no more constituency meetings.”
“Every L.G.A /LCDA across Alimosho should govern their affairs internally without any form of external intervention from any selfish leader(s), total liberation from bad influence and political thuggery, and provision of trusted and reliable leadership for the benefits of party members.”
“Anything short of the above is a ‘no-no’ for us. Sanity must prevail in Alimosho APC. Our elected public office holders must give proper accountability as and when due,” he enthused.
“ Personally, I do not have issues with Alhaji Enilolobo but with his leadership style. He may be a good leader but it is obvious that he appoints bad representatives. And that makes them birds of a feather”
Also speaking at the event, Idris Balogun a House of Representatives aspirant in Alimosho added that the newly formed political movement is not a joke.
“This is not the time for jokes. We have a very difficult task in front of us and as such, all hands must be on deck. The liberation of Alimosho is now and it has come to stay. During the last local government elections, some groups of people headed by my big sister, Joke Orelope stood against injustice and imposition but we were blind then. We were made to see them as “aggrieved”, and as such were tagged them “I no go gree” simply because they sought freedom from imposition but we were wrong, and they were right. But today, we are all one. We are together to confront one thing which is bad leadership in Alimosho. We will win but we must come together as one to win.”
“We are not asking for too much”, as earlier stated by Alhaji Ejigbadero. “Let each local government be governed by their popular candidates and not by imposing some stooges on us. It is that simple. Allow the youths to drive the party instead of a few old men whose daily, weekly and monthly income from local governments are running into millions whereas, the members are suffering the consequence.we can see the infrastructural deficiencies around Alimosho,Otoge!”
According to Mr. Akeem Ariori, “You all know me to be a private person but I have been contributing the little I have to help in Alimosho but this time, I think it is imperative to be part of this movement. This is 2020 and living in bondage should not be the in-thing – No. I will support you with everything within my powers, God willing.
Present at the meeting were other Alimosho notables. Alongside Alhaji Abiodun Ejigbadero is Comrade Ahmed Alawaye a.k.a Triple-A, Mr. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe among others who are the backbone and financiers of the movement, though both sent in their regrets over their inability to attend the meeting but promised to be at subsequent meetings.
