A widow Mrs Mustapha Ramot in her petition today Tuesday 10th August 2021 alledged at the sitting of the Lagos State judicial panel on restitution for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters that the police stray bullet killed her husband on the 20th of October 2020 in Ajangbadi of Ojo local government council area of Lagos State.
She stated that her late husband was a commercial motorcycle rider who went out for the days business on the said date but never returned home as he was shot and killed by a stray bullet as a result of indiscriminate shootings by the Nigeria police personnel of Ajangbadi division.
In the case of Mrs. Ramot Mustapha vs the Nigeria police force, she said when her husband didn’t return home from work on the 20th of October 2020, she then took his photograph and went out on the 21st of October 2020 to look for him. She said a man who saw the photograph took her to the Baale palace where she was told that the husband was hit by a police stray bullet on the 20th of October 2020. When asked for the identity of the man who told her, she said she didn’t know him. On if she has a medical report on the cause of death of the deceased, the petitioner said his corpse was taken away and till date, she is yet to locate the body.
Under cross examination by the respondent, the petitioner said her late husband was unaware of the imposition of 24 hour curfew by the Lagos State government and only got to know while commuting passengers and so, he made efforts to return home, but was shot and killed at about 1pm on the 20th of October 2020. She admitted being aware that Okokomaiko and Ojo police stations were attacked and burnt by protesters.
Mrs. Ramot Mustapha mentioned the names of two suspected policemen with one alias as tallest serving with Ajangbadi police station as being responsible for her late husband death.
The respondent then applied for a witness summons against the suspected mentioned police officers which was granted.
The panel adjourned the petition to 24th August 2021 for further hearing.
