Youths for Nigeria Prosperity (YNP) has urged Nigerians particularly youths to shun patronage of imported Kampala fabrics.
This was contained in a release signed by the group convener, Comrade Olubayode Damilare and made available to news men in Abeokuta by the group publicity secretary Comrade Kehinde Tajudeen.
Olubayode said it has become imperative view of the recent statement of leaders of Kampala producers in Ogunstate who expressed concerned on the ongoing moves by some Chinese contractors to hijack production of Kampala fabrics by flooding markets with fake and substandard imported fabrics.
He stated that with this ugly development, it is necessary to sensitise and educate Nigerians and youths in particular who by all indication are affected by the increasing tide of unemployment caused by the erosion of our local industry.
He noted that Kampala fabrics production which is an age long business widely accepted to be the traditional initiative of the Egbas in Ogun State is among few surviving fabrics industry which has provided employment opportunity for thousands of people as well as promoting tourism and national heritage must be collectively protected by all to prevent further widen unemployment gap.
The convener observed that high taste for foreign goods and consistence flaunting of imported products by Nigerians is a major factor that encourage excessive importation which has literarily turned the country to dumping ground.
Olubayode posited that it is high time to save the Economy by jettison foreign products and patronise made in Nigeria to grow local companies, create Employment opportunity, reduce high demand for Dollars and grow Economy, Saying money spent on imported products would only go to originators of the products.
He however commended the A lake and Paramount ruler Egba land ( HRM) Oba Adedotun Gbadebo for promoting and protecting local industries and appealed to other Traditional rulers, religions leaders government functionaries to emulate the king not only by lending their voices to promotion of Made in Nigerian products but also stop flaunting and if possible jettison foreign products.
