— Appeal to qualify residents of the State to participate in the continuous voters’ registration
— Enjoin them to vote in the coming general election
Ahead of next year general elections in Nigeria, the Lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency II, in the ninth (9th) Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Kehinde Olaide Joseph, has appealed to all qualified residents of the State to participate in the ongoing continuous voters’ registration.
Kehinde Joseph reiterated this yesterday, Thursday, June 30, 2022, during the eighth (8th) Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting held simultaneously by Lawmakers across the State.
Addressing the Stakeholders in his Alimosho Constituency II, Kehinde Joseph noted that the theme of the stakeholders’ meeting, “2023 General Election: The Imperatives of Permanent Voters’ Cards”, was succinctly apt as the nation matches towards the elections.
Kehinde Joseph, lamented that over one million Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) of Lagosians still remain uncollected. Not only that, the low turnout of intending voters in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise in Lagos State is worrisome too.
Kehinde Joseph, implored the political groups, religious bodies, traditional societies, markets and rights leaders to mobilize and educate the citizenry towards the consciousness of such exercise, so that they can all vote in the general election next year.
The statement read that, Lagosians had failed to use the rare opportunity provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s ongoing continuous voters registration exercise on the inevitable and indispensable need to obtain their voter’s card in order to qualify to participate in the 2023 general elections.
“Let us not marginalize ourselves. It is an existential reality that Lagos State has low turnout unlike Kano, Delta, Bayelsa et al.
“Worthy of note is that the race for different political offices has begun and politics is a game of number. It is pertinent to note that for us to actualize the much needed, we must influence every adult and youth to obtain their voter’s card as a veritable weapon to enthroned good governance and dethroned bad leadership.
“Unfortunately, we feel unconcerned and comfortable. I am passionately appealing to us all to come out from our comfort zones and go to our respective families, political zones and wards to enlighten and mobilize citizenry and residents to obtain our Voter’s Card. One will not only be a docile follower but a threat to good governance and our political evolution.
“I am using this medium to enjoin the INEC, National Orientation Agency (NOA) in our various LG/LCDAs to carryout aggressive enlightenment campaign to ensure that all citizenry suffrage registered and registration process and collection of Voters’ card should be made less cumbersome”, he maintained.
