Men of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce), have kick-started a strategic enforcement exercise across the Ikeja metropolitan city towards sanitizing areas burdened by the menace of street trading and it’s associated security threats as reported by concerned citizens, especially in areas notorious for such activities all through the nights.
Alade street and a part of Orishe street, both off the Obafemi Awolowo way, where contrary to extant laws, full blown street trading and suspicious underhand activities, including the sale of illicit drugs takes place, were on Wednesday night, July 17, 2024 raided to enforce the street trading ban and arrest individuals suspected of carrying out illicit activities within the areas.
Credible intelligence has shown that, Alade street at night serves as a safe haven for most criminals who perpetrate crime around the Ikeja-Alausa environs as they most times hide under the cover of night life after commuting their heinous crimes.
Leading the night enforcement operation, chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Akerele Adetayo, opined that, the exercise was in the interest of the citizenry as directed by the Lagos State commissioner of police CP Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, who he said, has ordered a continuous onslaught to reinforce security and safety for Lagosians.
CSP Akerele, said after the successful enforcement that all suspects will be charged to court in line with the laws made for such offences.
