The Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has launched a social intervention programme aimed at uplifting less privileged people in the council area.

The Chairman of the Council, Honorable Rasaq Ajala disclosed this on Monday, 23 September, 2024 during the stakeholders’ summit and leadership training organized by the Ajala administration for community leaders in the council area.

Political leaders led by former Senate Minority Whip and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon graced the event.

Others at the event were: member representing Mushin Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, Honorable Adeyemi Alli; member representing Mushin State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honorable Nureni Akinsanya among others.

According to Ajala, those to benefit from the social intervention project are: the physically-challenged, widows, widowers, the aged, and the vulnerables.

He stated that each of the beneficiaries will be collecting ₦20,000 monthly. As at the time of writing this report, a total of 3,000 beneficiaries have been enlisted for the programme while it is expected that the number will grow.

“The aim of this social intervention programme is to give people at the lower level of the society succour. It is similar to the social welfare programme of the advanced countries,” he said.

The Council Boss noted that for a start, the number of beneficiaries is pegged at 3,000. He, however, stated that the number will be increased from time to time if and when the need arises.

“The journey of 1,000 miles start with a step. This is just the beginning. We are starting with 3,000 beneficiaries but we hope to increase the number when the need arises,” he said.

Ajala also launched medical insurance programme for the physically-challenged at the event. A total of 1,000 will benefit from the pilot programme.

The Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman stated that the Stakeholders’ Summit and Leadership Training programmes were held to interact with community leaders in the council area but also meant to train in community work and what to do to improve their various communities.

“It is also an avenue for us to interact with the community leaders and give them report of our performance in office,” he said.
