Rev. Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi, also known as Iya Adura, emphasized the importance of collective effort in building a great nation like Nigeria during the premiere of “Okikiola the Fisherman” at her Love of Christ Generation Church Hall in Lagos.
She stressed that leadership and citizens must work together to achieve this goal. Rev. Mother Ajayi also pledged to continue supporting hardworking Nigerians, like Adeola Agoro, the writer of the movie, as the country needs passionate individuals to fulfill its dreams.
Adeola Agoro expressed her delight with the project, saying, “Working on ‘Okikiola the Fisherman’ was a worthwhile experience, despite the challenges we faced filming with over 100 cast members for two months.” She highlighted the movie’s focus on a love story centered around Baaj Adebule in the riverine area of Isheri Olofin, and its exploration of the dangers of greed.
The producer, Segun Ogungbe, noted, “I felt privileged to work on this project with Adeola Agoro. Shooting in riverine areas was a new experience for me, but I believe ‘Okikiola the Fisherman’ will compete favorably among its peers.” Ogungbe also appreciated the opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage through the film.
On the significance of the movie, Adeola Agoro added, “I hope ‘Okikiola the Fisherman’ inspires Nigerians to reflect on the importance of community and the consequences of greed. We’re eager to share this story with a wider audience through cinema and live streaming platforms.”
Former Senator Ganiyu Solomon praised Nollywood’s growth, saying, “It’s delightful to see Nollywood come of age and compete globally. I commend Adeola Agoro’s resilience and urge other states to emulate the successful collaboration between Nollywood, the federal government, and Lagos State Government.”
Rev. Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi also marked Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary by urging Nigerians to unite and support the less privileged. The movie features renowned actors Kunle Afolayan, Don Richard, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Fatiha Balogun amongst others.
