In continuation of the mid-term inspection and performance assessment of the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State, the team in charge of Lagos East Senatorial District is set to storm Ibeju Lekki community for the assignment.
The team would on Tuesday (October 22) comb the communities in Ibeju Lekki local government area as well as the towns and villages in the Lekki LCDA to have a first hand information on the programs and projects embarked on by the two councils in this riverine area of the state.
The Senator Musiliu Obanikoro led team, which had earlier visited Epe Local Government and its two Local Council Development Areas (Eredo and Ikosi Ejinrin) for a similar exercise, would take its time to go round the projects of the councils and assess their level of completion as well as their relevance to the people who are the ultimate beneficiaries.
The five-man team, which has the mandate of the party to carry out the assessment in the senatorial district, would visit all the five local governments and eleven local council development areas in the district before detailing its findings on each of them for the party at the end of its assignment.
During its visit to Epe, the team met with the council chairmen, notable leaders of the party and other stakeholders of the community where it assured them of its objective nature. Senator Obanikoro explained that the team was only a fact-finding one that would not, in any way, witch-hunt anyone or try to look for faults.
He said the party came up with the idea so as to gauge the pulse of the people and “feel their disposition toward our government at the grassroots level ahead of next year’s local government elections”. The assessment, he said, became necessary as a measure of the public confidence and acceptance of the party and government at the local levels.
With the exercise, Obanikoro said the party would be able to know where to make necessary adjustments and plug necessary loopholes in order to move things in favor of the public so as to win more of their confidence and get them to vote for its candidates across the 57 local council constituencies in the next election.
The chairmen of the councils, Hon. Sesan Olowa of Ibeju Lekki Local Government and Engr. Rasak Bamidele Kasali of Lekki LCDA, were already looking forward to the visit which they said would enable the public know more about their programs and take advantage of them for their benefit.
