The Lagos State Government (LASG) strongly condemns the recent attack on Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), one of the major electricity distribution companies serving Lagos and Ogun States. Reports indicate that the incident involved vandalism, assault on staff, and the theft of company and employee property—an unacceptable act that will not be tolerated.
According to information received, the attack was allegedly carried out by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force in response to the disconnection of electricity supply to the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base due to unpaid debts. While LASG recognizes the importance of maintaining good relationships with all stakeholders, including the armed forces, resorting to violence and intimidation is completely unacceptable.
The Honourable Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, states that the safety and well-being of all citizens, including employees of electricity distribution companies, remain a top priority for the Lagos State Government. He urges all parties involved to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means rather than confrontation.
LASG is working closely with relevant authorities to investigate this incident thoroughly and ensure that justice is served. We also call on the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force to take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence and emphasize the need for constructive dialogue in resolving conflicts.
In the meantime, we assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to resolve this issue conclusively and amicably.
