A civil society organization, the Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) has commiserated with the immediate and extended family, relations, friends, associates, the government and good people of Katsina State and the federal republic of Nigeria over the untimely demise of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday 13th July 2025.
In a press release issued in Lagos by its executive director Nelson Ekujumi, the group asserted that “With a heavy and grieving heart, we mourn with Nigerians and the rest of humanity over the unexpected and painful passage of our former President, a Democrat per excellence, role model, inspirational leader, devout Muslim, caring father, disciplinarian and incorruptible life of simplicity and selfless service to the nation as encapsulated in the life and times of former President Muhammadu Buhari”.
According to the civil society organization, “We recall with nostalgia and fondness, memories of this great leader who gave his all in service to the nation both as a military head of state and civilian President for 8 years in the life of our democracy”.
It noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari on both occasions that he was Nigeria’s leader as a military general and civilian President, came into the saddle on a divine rescue mission of Nigeria from moral and economic bankruptcy for which his indelible footprints is ethched firmly in history.
The group noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered as a Hero of Democracy for his exemplary courage in declaring June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day. His place in Nigeria’s history as a leader with unequalled and unparalleled infrastructural renewal in roads, bridges, railways, airports, schools, hospitals, etc despite the global economic shutdown by covid-19.
The organization went further to ask, “Who can forget former President Muhammadu Buhari compassion as a leader and father when in 2015 on assuming office, he approved loans and grants to several states governments who were in arrears of workers salaries and emoluments for months and years?
Hate or like him, former President Muhammadu Buhari was a disciplined, incorruptible, fearless and honest leader who spoke his mind no matter the circumstances, he was a man of few but measured words.
According to Nelson Ekujumi, as we mourn his exit from the earthly stage, we cannot but give glory to the Almighty Allah for this gift to humanity whose life and impact on humanity, we will continue to treasure eternally.
To the former first lady Her Excellency Hajia Aisha Buhari and the children, it stated, “we share in your grief over the passage of our father, as we pray that may Allah grant his soldierly and democratic soul, aljanat fridaus”.
