An Open Letter to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArb (UK)

Dear Honourable Minister,

I write to commend your swift intervention and proactive leadership in the recent aviation incidents involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson and Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (popularly known as KWAM 1). In these trying times for our aviation sector, your decisiveness has brought calm to a tense situation and demonstrated your commitment to balancing justice with compassion.

Your statement reflects a thoughtful approach to conflict resolution, and I particularly appreciate the fact that all stakeholders were consulted before these resolutions were reached. This inclusive style of governance is a rare but valuable trait. I sincerely hope, however, that the decisions taken will not inadvertently affect the rating of Nigeria’s aviation safety barometer under your watch; a benchmark that reflects the seriousness with which our nation treats aviation security and operational discipline.

That said, it is impossible to overlook the apparent double standards displayed by certain aviation and security agencies in handling these matters. The calibre and social standing of those involved seem to have influenced the pace, tone, and leniency of the processes. This perception, whether accurate or not, can erode public trust if left unaddressed. Equal treatment under the law, regardless of status remains the cornerstone of credible governance and effective regulatory enforcement.

In the spirit of fairness, and in line with the adage *“what is good for the goose is good for the gander,”* I humbly propose that both Ms. Comfort Emmanson and KWAM 1 be appointed as Aviation Ambassadors. Since one of them has already been considered for such a role, extending the same recognition to the other will not only close the gap of perceived bias but also transform a moment of past error into a platform for public enlightenment and behavioural change.

Finally, Honourable Minister, I must commend your groundbreaking achievements in the aviation sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Your tenure is fast distinguishing itself as one committed to reform, inclusivity, and the pursuit of higher operational standards. It is my hope that the decisions taken in this instance will strengthen and not weaken the perception of fairness, security, and professionalism in Nigeria’s aviation space.

Yours faithfully,

Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu
