On this year’s World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, with the theme “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making,” I reaffirm my personal and unwavering commitment to the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every Nigerian child.
“Protecting our children must go beyond sympathetic statements and occasional outrage. It requires deliberate, informed action. As First Lady, I believe that our response must be rooted in accurate data, credible research, and sound, enforceable policies that prevent abuse, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable.”
“I therefore call on all stakeholders—government agencies at every level, civil society organisations, traditional and religious leaders, parents, guardians, and our vibrant young people—to join hands with my office in building a Nigeria where children can grow, learn, and dream without fear. Together, we must create a truly protective environment in our homes, schools, communities, and online spaces, where children feel safe to speak up and are assured of timely help when they do.”
“As we reflect on this important day, let us renew our resolve to listen to children, to believe them, and to act decisively in their best interest. Our children are our greatest treasure and the true measure of our nation’s future.”
“May God protect all our children,” first lady said.
