In a strong demonstration of empathy and responsive governance, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, led a humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting widows across the community. The event, held at the Council Secretariat in Akowonjo, brought together community leaders, stakeholders, members of the press, and beneficiaries in a moment defined by compassion and solidarity.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman emphasized that the initiative goes beyond the distribution of food items. He described it as a deliberate effort by his administration to reinforce its commitment to social welfare, inclusiveness, and the upliftment of vulnerable groups within Alimosho. According to him, governance must remain people-centered, ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.

The Chairman paid glowing tribute to widows, describing them as pillars of strength who continue to play vital roles as mothers, caregivers, and contributors to community development, despite facing economic and social challenges. He acknowledged the harsh realities many widows endure and stressed the need for collective intervention to ease their burdens.

He further highlighted that the food support programme forms part of a broader strategy by his administration to cushion the effects of economic hardship on residents. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing sustainable policies and programmes that will not only provide immediate relief but also create long-term empowerment opportunities for vulnerable populations.

Speaking directly to the widows, Hon. Akinpelu Johnson offered words of encouragement, assuring them that they are not alone in their struggles. He noted that their resilience remains a source of inspiration and pledged that the government will continue to stand by them through targeted interventions designed to improve their quality of life.

In a related development, the Council Manager, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, remarked: “It is a thing of joy to be part of this management team. The Chairman is a wonderful leader whose agenda is firmly rooted in the welfare of the people—be it council workers or residents alike. Rest assured, the local government will continue to do its best to support you in every way possible.”

The event concluded on a note of gratitude and unity, as the Chairman appreciated partners, community leaders, and stakeholders whose support ensured the success of the initiative. He called for sustained collaboration in building a more compassionate and inclusive Alimosho, expressing optimism that collective efforts will foster a stronger and more supportive society for all residents.
