•Monarch Calls Government Attention To Avert Crisis
Oba Lasisi Gbadebo Gbadamosi, Oni – Gando of Igando has called on Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu to intervene in the ongoing land dispute in the ancient town of Igando.
About an acre of land which is allocated for the community over four decades ago by the rulers and leaders of the ancient town to build town hall, court, market and other communal benefits have become subject of dispute lately.
According to Oba Lasisi ” It is shocking for anybody to demolish community Properties using government as a cover without a proper document from the ministry of justice or anywhere whatsoever. This land belongs to the community and we have every documents to back it up . Just few weeks ago, it was brought to my notice that a petition is written against the community on the said land and I went to the ministry of justice to meet with the taskforce chairman on land grabbing to know what was going. Three, days later police were brought to the land and tractor for demolition.”
“It is saddening and disturbing that, the taskforce chairman that suppose to know much or be an arbiter in this matter is seen taking side already. Though, he boasted to me personally, he can get the structures on the land demolished, Now he did it.”
“One Lawal Ige is the brain behind the whole issue, he is bent on selling Community land by laying claim to unexisted tales to back his claim. Information from a reliable source has it that, the land is to be sold at One hundred and twenty million naira.”
The youth of the town have however resolved to fight anyone seen on the land and create crisis in the town if the government fails to address the issue.
The monarch appeals to the Lagos State government, the DSS, police and relevant agencies to be on alert not to allow the brewing crisis escalate.
“The land is Community property,” the monarch said.
Our correspondent’s effort to reach out to Lawal Ige to hear his own side of the story proved abortive.
