Plans by the Executive Chairman of Apapa local government , Hon Elijah Owolabi Adele to defraud the local government has been exposed by a letter he wrote to the legislative arm of the local government seeking variation for on going projects by the local government.
In a letter dated 17tj June 2021, sent to the leader of the legislative arm of the council, the embattled chairman who has less than two month to vacate the seat is requesting for variation to the tune of one hundred and seventy four million, forty four thousand and ninety one naira and eighty eight Kobo (#174,044,091. 88) being variation costs on the projects.
In a press release by the Apapa Liberation Team (ALT) through its spokesperson, Comrade Lanre Owosheni stated that it’s position has been vindicated by this exposure of the financial malfeasance of the outgoing chairman of Apapa local government.
The ALT publicity secretary said” we have just stumbled on a memo sent to the legislature by the chairman , dated 17th June 2021, requesting for approval for variation of cost of on going projects in the local government.
According to him, ” his plan to wreck the council is being exposed by his desperation to embark of financial recklessness inorder to put the incoming executive chairman in serious financial constraints. Or how do we justify the variation at the tail end of his inglorious era.”
Continuing” we can’t fold our hands and allow this desperate politician wreck our beloved council and turn it into his personal company. We won’t allow such recklessness go unchallenged. ”
The ALT spokesperson however disclosed that with the evidence at their disposal, it’s crystal clear that Hon Adele, who has challenged the group to provide evidence of his financial impropriety to shamefully exit the seat with what they have uncovered.
In his words, ” Adele challenged us to provide evidence of financial recklessness of his, this letter of variation is one of the many cover up he is doing, but we have enough to confront him at the appropriate time, either in government or outside , as the money belongs to the people of Apapa. We will not allow this financial crime to go unmitigated. ”
” As genuine party member’s, we have refused to make public the payment vouchers and cheque numbers of the illegal money collected by Adele,but we shall not hesitate to do it,if he fails to desist from his thieving ways. We want to urge our leaders at the state level to call this desperate and highly confused council boss to order before he turns Apapa to laughing stock as his financial recklessness has no equal presently and if he goes unchallenged , definitely he will be setting a bad precedent. Or how could a council boss be asking for variation to the tune of one hundred and seventy million naira in the twilight of his administration” , he concluded
