Operatives of the Lagos state Rapid Response Squad (RRS), yesterday 9th October, 2021, averted what could be described as a disaster as recalcitrant commercial motorcyclists, plying the restricted BRT corridor, brazenly charged at the driver of a BRT bus involved in an accident with one of them who was plying the dedicated bus rapid transit lane at top speed, around Cement cum Ile Zik axis.
Reports gathered, indicate that, in flagrant disregard of the Lagos state traffic laws 2018 as amended, which prohibits other road users from the route, the motorcyclist was riding on the restricted lane with reckless abandon, thus, lost control and bumped into the BRT bus.
But for the timely arrival and intervention of the RRS men, other reckless okada riders, plying the lane, would have completely torched the bus as they were already massively mobilized and seen to be gathering combustible materials in readiness to stoke a blaze.
The RRS operatives on arrival immediately took charge in securing the traumatized driver, the bus and restored normalcy on the corridor as mandated by the agency’s commander, CSP Saheed Olayinka Egbeyemi who responded to a distress call
