The Lagos State judicial panel on restitution for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters sitting in Lagos today Friday 16th July 2021 was granted another three months extension to conclude it’s assignment even as it sat over eleven petitions.

The news of the extension of three months granted the panel was broken by the panel chairman Justice Doris Okuwobi (Rtd.) during sitting today.

Recall that the Lagos State judicial panel just like in all the 36 states of the federation was inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on 27th October 2020 for a six months time frame in response government acceeding to the five for five demands of the EndSARS protesters by the National Economic Council (NEC) with a mandate to look into abuses by security agencies and the disbanded SARS unit of the Nigeria police force and make recommendations for restitution to victims to the authorities.

The initial six months of the Lagos State judicial panel expired on the 27th of April 2021 and the panel was granted a three months tenure extension which was supposed to expire on the 19th July 2021, until the latest extension for another three months by the Lagos State government.

At today’s sitting, eleven petitions were heard with the panel reserving decision on about six petitions after the adoption of final written address by counsels to a date in which counsels will be notified in due course, while other petitions were at various stages of adjudication.
