The Lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency II in the ninth (9th) Lagos State House of Assembly, also doubles as Chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Hon Kehinde Joseph, admonished the Youths to proffer innovative localised solution to Nation’s challenges as they celebrate the Year 2021 International Youth Day.
The Lawmaker make this known on Thursday through a press statement released by his Head of Media & Strategic Communication, while commemorating the Year 2021’s International Youth’s Day as set aside by the United Nations.
On this year’s theme “transforming food system: youth innovation for human and planetary health”; the Chairman House Committee on Agriculture alluded that youths as a matter of urgency must get involved in Agricultural ventures while respective government provided enabling environment and innovative means to ensure productivity.
“It has been acknowledged that there is a need for inclusive support mechanisms that ensure youths continue to amplify efforts collectively, and individually to restore the planet and protect life, while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems”
“With the world’s population expected to increase by two (2) billion people in the next thirty (30) years, it has become recognized by numerous stakeholders, that simply producing a larger volume of healthier food; more sustainably, will not ensure human and planetary wellbeing”, he said.
He added that other crucial challenges such as the interlinkages embodied by the 2030 Agenda including poverty reduction, social inclusion, health care, biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation need to be addressed.
Furthermore, he noted that the rising concerns of food insecurity in the Country was largely, because there were largely subsistence farming practices over modernized ways while many youths remained focused on other ventures other than Agriculture.
Kehinde Joseph reiterated that Youths remained critical Stakeholders at ensuring the planet’s healthiness and as a Nation, hence, the Youth need to participate and contribute through youth education, engagement, innovations and entrepreneurial solutions.
While congratulating youths all across the Country on this year’s celebration of International Youth Day, he urged Youths that are private investors to exploit potentials in Agricultural Sector because subsequent years would enlist more youths in positions of impact.
