•CARITAS NIGERIA CARES ACT AND MESSAGES OF HOPE PROJECTS
The Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (Caritas Nigeria) is implementing two projects in Lagos State called the CARES Act Project and the Messages of Hope project which centres around the COVID-19 pandemic.
FACTS ABOUT COVID- 19
• COVID-19 has recently become a disease of public health importance.
• COVID-19 is transmitted mainly through droplets ( containing the virus) that come out of the mouth or nose of an infected person when they sneeze, talk or cough.
• The signs and symptoms of COVID-19 ranges from mild to severe symptoms which are; cough, fever, running nose, sore throat, headache, difficulty in breathing, nausea, sore throat, loss of taste and smell, general weakness, diarrhoea, wheezing, abdominal pain, altered mental status.
• It is important to mention that cough, headache, fever and running nose could be the mild signs or symptoms of COVID-19 and should be reported immediately for monitoring While difficulty in breathing, loss of taste and smell could be more life threatening and should need urgent medical attention for medical support such as ventilator.
• Everyone is at risk of having this disease.
• The preventive measures for COVID-19 includes;
Vaccination against COVID-19
2. Avoid contact with infected person
3. Increase hygiene measures; washing of hand regularly using soap and water or use alcohol- based sanitizer
4. Always coughs and sneezes into the elbows
5. Avoid touching people and avoid sharing items and if not possible disinfect objects before using.
6. Physical distancing is advised and avoid large crowd
7. Put on mask regularly and avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
The importance of Vaccination can never be over emphasized; getting vaccinated helps one to build immunity against this virus. The covid-19 Vaccine is highly effective against serious illness and death from covid-19.
